In a feeble attempt to be funny, the Mistakesman once again prints a Lewiston Tribune article on Idaho’s changing gun market Page 2C Opinion 7/2/2016. They attempted to berate the fact that our legislators finally listened to the people of Idaho and not the “Muppet Media” by passing legislation this year allowing permit-less carrying of concealed weapons. We are not sure which hack reporter from the Tribune wrote this attempt at serious comedy, but they should definitely be fired or confined to a room transcribing the Dead Sea scrolls for the rest of their working life.
Citing the fact that three of Ada County’s police chiefs may not have agreed with the new law, we would like to note that it is not the Ada County police chiefs place to decide what is best for the citizens of Idaho that is why we elect legislators who represent the people. Also cited was the Campus Carry law complaining that it was passed without regard to the urgent pleas of cops, college presidents, students, faculty and the State Board of Education. Once more the liberal media thinks it is the people who the taxpayers hire and pay to run our educational facilities that should be making the rules when it comes to constitutional questions on firearms. They don’t seem to understand that this is why we have elected legislators to do what the citizens want, not what the bureaucrats in our public education systems want. Let us point out that there has not been one problem with gun violence since Campus Carry was passed in spite of all the warnings that were presented at the public hearings. In fact we believe that our public higher educational learning campuses are safer now that it is an unknown who is carrying a firearm.
The article cites that 8,000 people were killed with a gun in 2014. By the same token 32,675 died in motor vehicles accidents that same year. Should we ban cars to save lives? They took an FBI survey from 2014 and once again managed to get the numbers wrong. They claimed of the 160 active shooter incidents from 2000 to 2013 only one case of an armed civilian who was not a security guard subdued an armed assailant and 22 cases where unarmed people stopped armed intruders. In reality 5 of the mass shootings were ended by armed civilians who subdued the shooter and 21 cases involved unarmed people stopping an armed shooter although there were no specifics on how they stopped them without a firearm. What they also left out the fact that in at least 25 of the shootings the shooter got away before police arrived. It is obvious that it is better to be an armed well trained civilian if you encounter an active shooter. You can read the study for yourself at this link.
It is simply amazing how the trolls writing for liberal media manipulate statistics to benefit their arguments. These dummies also mentioned a law professor John J. Donohue III, who “Looked over records from 1979 to 2010” and linked these laws to “substantially higher rates” of violent crime. We did a bit of research instead of just looking over the records as the professor did on this and found the following facts. Gun homicides were 10% higher in states with restrictive CCW laws, according to a study spanning 1980-2009. After passing their concealed carry law, Florida’s homicide rate fell from 36% above the national average to 4% below. In Texas, murder rates fell 50% faster than the national average in the year after their concealed carry law passed. Rape rates fell 93% faster in the first year after enactment, and 500% faster in the second. Assaults fell 250% faster in the second year. More to the point, crime is significantly higher in states without right-to-carry laws. You can check these facts here. The facts are that people in states that allow concealed carry are safer than those without.
Our President should receive an award for being the number one salesman of the decade for gun sales since it is because of his constant attempts to make stricter gun laws that more people are buying guns and training to use them than ever before. Our forefathers created the 2nd Amendment as a mechanism for the people to protect themselves from tyrants who might try to take over their government, not so they could go hunting on weekends. Exercising those rights has been a tradition since America’s founding, and it is not a right we should ever give up if we intend to have a government of the people by the people and for the people.
One last word to the lazy misguided media who write this drivel day after day. “If you’re going to write for public consumption at least get the facts straight and the name of the person you’re writing about correct. He is the head of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance and his name is GREG PRUETT not Gary Pruett.
Our suggestion is that if you want correct facts read the Gem State Patriot as we endeavor to do the research unlike the “Media Muppets” who don’t care much about the facts as long as they fit their agenda. You can find the facts at www.gemstatepatriot.com
The Gem State Patriot would like to express their appreciation to Greg Pruett for all of the time and effort he and his members of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance spent in getting this law passed.
