Another sad story of a school shooting this past week that could have been avoided along with another call from stupid politicians for a ban on assault rifles, what a bunch of jerks we have elected to office. Had the teachers been armed chances are this tragic event would never have happened. When there is no deterrent to evil it will prevail. Putting a sign at each door outside the school that said “Teachers are armed Predators Beware” would have been a strong deterrent to this shooting. Why is it there are those who think that guns are the problem when it is people who shoot these guns who are the real problem? The gun does not act on its own to kill people, someone must actually load the gun, aim at the target, and pull the trigger.
This is not a gun problem this is a sick people problem that none of our leaders are responding to. I have talked about the mental health problem in our country and our state for years and nothing ever seems to change. Idaho still ranks 48th in the country in mental health care and ninth nationally in the number of suicides. The very people who blame these shootings on guns are the ones promoting the use of psychotropic drugs which is acknowledged by many medical authorities to be the root cause of these shootings. Yet they continue to try and solve this problem with more powerful drugs instead of using therapy. The use of second-generation antipsychotics nearly tripled from 1995 to 2008 in the United States, ballooning to more than 16 million prescriptions for drugs such as aripiprazole (Abilify), clozapinel (Clozaril) and quetiapine (Seroquel). It is undeniable that the use of antidepressants has played a large part in the increased number of these shootings. Seventy percent of the shootings since 1999 have been carried out by children under the age of 18. It was also found in studies that 70% of these young shooters had experienced bullying in school. Since the 1990’s the use of psychotropic drugs by children to manage depression has increased at an alarming rate as have the number of mass shootings. Big pharma along with the leftist politicians who receive millions in campaign contributions from them will continue to deny that drugs have anything to do with these deadly incidents. They are the same people who want to disarm Americans and do away with our 2nd amendment rights.
We constantly hear our politicians talk about the hundred thousand Americans who are killed by drugs every year coming across our southern border. My question is why is no one talking about the huge increase in antidepressant and psychotropic drugs being prescribed and the harm they can cause. Anxiety disorders are the most common group of mental health conditions in the United States, affecting approximately 40 million people. Recent research has shown a large increase in prescriptions for depression. One recent study found a tripling of prescriptions for antidepressants in the past 20 years. The number of children using these drugs continues to increase as we see a breakdown of the nuclear family and religious values continue to fall off a cliff. The drug companies continue to pummel google with articles that show drugs have not been the cause of these shootings and if this is true why are so many people that commit these horrible crimes on these drugs?
There are many things that can be blamed for these shootings but politically they always seem to focus on the guns and, in particular, assault rifles. Why don’t our politicians talk about the increased use of social media and its effect on our children as a potential cause of these shootings? Could this be another underlying cause along with the bullying that takes place on these platforms? Politicians continue to focus on guns which can actually be a deterrent to crimes like this when in the hands of the good guys.
Our society has been slowly sinking into the great abyss of moral and ethical decay for several decades, but no one wants to admit this is a large part of the problem. We don’t want to accept the fact that we as a society have created a conflict-oriented culture that has been the cause of many of these senseless shootings. Just look at the increase in crime in our big liberal cities and the catch-and-release laws being implemented by George Soros-backed District Attorneys.
Thousands of our police have taken early retirement or just plain quit because the politicians have allowed the criminals to run wild with little or no retribution. Those same politicians who have allowed criminals out of jail with no bail are the ones who are screaming to get your guns. The answer is not less guns but more guns in the hands of the good guys and that includes teachers. We live in a very dangerous world today with drugs like fentanyl killing tens of thousands of Americans every year to the smash-and-grab robberies and carjackings. Much of the blame for the increased shootings and drug abuse can be placed at the feet of our liberal politicians their sanctuary cities and their catch-and-release policies. The fact is they are making the problem worse. I’m not a violent person but it is seldom you will find me without a gun on my hip to protect myself and my family and more people should be adopting this attitude if they value their safety and the safety of their loved ones.
