Everyone seems to ask the same question “How did we get to where we are with the wokeness, Critical Race theory, gender orientation, and the general discourse with most Americans? It is almost as if we were back in the 1800s just before the Civil War. There is so much conflict in our country that it is hard to imagine that we will ever come together again as a united nation.
Why is America so divided? I believe the reason is that we were not paying attention to the changes in our public education system that were slowly but surely taking place since the 1960s along with the election of several presidents who knew too much about political scheming and very little about business. What we really needed to run our country were good businessmen like Donald Trump, not bad politicians who suck the life out of our economy with their huge spending habits.
Let’s take a short walk through history as I ask you to read this article detailing a disturbing interview given by a KGB defector in 1984 which describes much of what is happening in our country today: https://bigthink.com/the-present/yuri-bezmenov/
In 1984, a former KGB agent defected to the U.S. His name was Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov and he claimed Russia has a long-term goal of ideologically subverting the U.S. He made it clear that 85% of the work of the KGB was a slow process designated as either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare. Ideological subversion happens in the open as a legitimate process fitting in perfectly with our public education system. He described the process as “a great brainwashing” that has four basic stages.
Stage 1. Was Demoralization, an irreversible process that would take about 20 years and began in the 1950s and 60s. A person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information as the facts tell nothing to him and exposure to true information does not matter anymore. America began to become a society of polarized tribes, with some people flat-out rejecting facts in favor of narratives and opinions. Consider the Hippies of the sixties coming to positions of power in the 1980s. It was 1962 when the U.S. Supreme Court declared school-sponsored prayers unconstitutional. Serious changes to our public education system began with the Elementary and Secondary Education Act signed into law by Pres. Johnson in 1965. Along with this new role of education came Johnson’s “Great Society Program” which contained a set of social domestic policy programs focusing mainly on eliminating racial injustice, poverty, education, and medical care.
To lend cover for Johnson’s new Great Society program, he started a hot war with Vietnam claiming that the U.S.S. Maddox was attacked a second time by Vietnamese PT boats accelerating the U.S. into full armed conflict. This war was despised by many Americans as protests raged throughout the country. (The first stage was complete). Demoralization was completed in the 1980s as Americans found it difficult to assess true information when there was serious consolidation of our primary media companies which had turned sharply to the left. Johnson rode the rising tide of liberalism spurred by the Democratic landslide in the 1964 election that turned the House of Representatives of 1965 into the most liberal House since 1938 under the Franklin Roosevelt administration.
Stage 2. After demoralization is ideological brainwashing or “destabilization”: This process he said should take between 3 and 5 years but much of that depends on the cooperation of government leaders and of course having someone like Ronald Reagan in office for 8 years totally upset the apple cart as the Soviet Union was dismantled and America had a reprieve from the destabilization process. But fear not it began again with the election of Bill Clinton followed by George Bush Jr. In this next phase there would be ideological brainwashing and destabilization with the targets being essential structural elements of our nation’s economy, foreign relations, and our defense systems. For 8 years president Clinton went through a process of fragmenting our economy and country moving it more to the left. He gave China “Most Favored Nation Trade Status” which began a serious decline in U.S. manufacturing as much of it was being outsourced to other countries for lower labor costs. In the late ’80s, American manufacturers’ products were about 40% of our economy and by 2006 it had declined to 9% as we lost millions of high-paying manufacturing jobs. We were even outsourcing many parts that were critical to our military to potential enemies.
Next, we elected George Bush, never a true conservative as his family had strong ties to the Washington elitists’ establishment. His administration continued the destabilization of the U.S. It was the attack on the World Trade Center that initiated the beginning of the War on Terror. This was the second time America had been attacked on its homeland and everyone wanted retribution for this sinister act. It was just two years later that Bush initiated the war with Iraq over weapons of mass destruction another war that again divided Americans even further. Does anyone remember the 7 billion no-bid contract won by Haliburton a company that Bush’s Vice President chaired for 6 years? Haliburton eventually made over 39 billion in contracts for the Iraq War.
Let us not forget it was George Bush who rewrote President Johnson’s “Elementary and Secondary Education Act” and created the “No Child Left Behind Act” whose methods included a new federal system of testing and accountability and was as strict as it was controversial. The message this sent to the states was clear: We don’t trust you to do the right thing by your most disadvantaged students (Can you say EQUITY/RACISM). The Federal government pretty much took over our entire public school system while the programs instituted did virtually nothing to improve student achievement or graduation rates. It was also George who brought us the Patriot Act, which has been constantly abused by our own supposed defenders of law and order to persecute their enemies.
It was when Obama took over in 2008 that we saw socialism take a great stride forward with the implementation of Obamacare. Obama also brought about great distrust from our U.S. Military as he began to cull out the true conservative officers and install more liberal-leaning military leaders. It was Obama and his apology to 3 billion people across Europe, the Muslim world, and the Americas which set the tone for the problems we have in our country today. At the core of his message was the concept that the U.S. is a flawed nation that must seek redemption by apologizing for its past “sins. His unconditional engagement with America’s enemies and relentless penchant for making apologies was a dangerous recipe for failure. The overall effect of his approach to diplomacy was to weaken American Power on the world stage not strengthen it.
Stage 2 is completed BUT INTERRUPTED by Trump: By the time Obama was ready to leave office the second stage of ideological brainwashing and destabilization was complete, and stage 3 was ready to be put in motion. “But something happened on the way to stage 3 and that was the election of Donald Trump as president. This changed the schedule of this grand scheme to take America down as the Democrats were at a total loss to understand how Hillary could have possibly lost the election to Trump. This disruption of the plan to change America was sidelined for 4 years because Trump was not a member of the permanent Washington bureaucracy. Trump was a very successful businessman who was skilled in the art of negotiation and was only interested in rebuilding America and bringing back good-paying manufacturing jobs.
Of course, this was something the left could not accept, and they immediately began an attack on this successful billionaire and even tried to prove collusion with the Russians. The FBI tapped his phones before he was even in office, making up any story they could to destroy his credibility. For four years they hounded this man charging him with anything the left could think of to get him out of office. Trump was the monkey wrench in their plans to take over our country. After all their failed attempts to oust him as president, they finally had to rig the 2020 election to keep him from getting another four-year term.
Stage 3 The election of Joe Biden: This shocked just about every conservative in the country as they found out that the left plays dirty and was not about to see their takeover of our country sidelined by a silly election. Biden was the key to implementing stage 3 of this diabolical plan. It was Biden along with the Chinese Covid 19 virus that would be used to bring about the crisis stage which took only a couple of months as he declared a national emergency and had the government take control of just about every aspect of our lives for almost two years. Biden locked down the country and instituted many draconian edicts, which violated our constitutional rights. He hobbled our economy and instilled fear into just about every American. We watched liberal state governors implement their own States of Emergency as they issued their own draconian rules and regulations requiring everything from the wearing of facemasks to the closing of schools, businesses, and restricting church services.
We must say thanks to another well-known businessman named Elon Musk, because of him and his takeover of Twitter we are now aware of violations of our 1 amendment right (Freedom of Speech). We finally know what we suspected all along that liberal media and social media were being controlled and told what to allow and what not to allow on their various platforms by our government agencies. They froze out anyone who did not agree with their platform on just about anything, especially the Covid 19 virus.
Stage 3 was supposed to bring about a violent change in the power structure and economy to our country followed by a final stage of normalization but that seems to have been aborted for now because of Biden’s follies with both the economy and his son’s misuse of political influence. So now that we have taken back one branch of government by a very slim margin, and it will be the next election that will decide where our country winds up. Those who think we are not currently fighting a war against Russia by proxy are fools. We have already committed over $100 billion to Ukraine for this war with Russia as many believe that much of our country’s future could depend on how this war turns out. Americans need to choose their leaders more carefully as we have made some huge mistakes in the past and cannot afford to do so in the future if we are to survive as a Free Republic.

It was long before the 1950s. Here’s a good timeline of the history that got us to this point

Well stated Bob, Amen!
In addition to everything you have mentioned, there was the integration of Agenda 21 into our government by Clinton which only made it easier for the following presidents to deconstruct our Repbulic. We now have tremendous progress of this agenda with corporate control over almost everything and full control will be accomplished with everyone on the internet, there will be no escaping handing over all control once this is completed as everything will demand online use which is becoming more required in everything.
I would add we became a nation divided by issues such as the Clinton impeachment followed by the Gore Bush 200 election where left and right saw these events at two different ends of the spectrum. Then a relentless attack on GW Bush by the left and media with the Bush lied, people died chanting as they could not let him have a win as a war time president. Whether his expanding government through Medicare, Patriot Act and education acts while trying to democratise Iraq was worth it is a discussion for another day. The rubber band snapped right into BHO and his move left and defying the electorate by using his “pen and phone” to implement policy in contrast to Clinton’s liberal first term agenda of high taxes, big governent and gays in military when he decided to side w the Gingrich congress and contract with America and state phrases like “the era of big gov is over as is welfare as we know it.” ( we got a balanced budget out of his cooperation.) Obama used his community organizer Saul Alinsky tactics within the federal swamp to swing us left. Not to mention their shenanigans in passing ObamaCare. This all shot the rubberband right back to the right with DJT election and that division took place w a vengeance. And it will continue with social media, mainstream media, education and wokeness on the left not relenting. They hit a bump when they came after the kids with their genderisms. Hopefully a stand will be made but the promotion of and deliberate illegal immigration issue, their control of corporations who foolishly buy into wokeness and communist groups like BLM, their vote by mail expansion, free monies to citizens and green climate economy that threatens safety and economy
