It is a big lie that socialist George Soros and liberals oppose a Convention of States call from Idaho. If you believe that, then I have some beachfront property to sell you at Filer, which is west of Twin Falls along Highway 30.
Soros and leftists would love to get their hands on our US Constitution. The Convention of States Committee has been lying on many issues to get Idaho legislators to pass a bill calling for a second, dangerous, likely run-a-way Constitutional Convention as was the original convention. That convention was to only modify the Articles of Confederation. Wisely, they started over and gave us the god-inspired US Constitution we have today.
I get Conference of States letters almost weekly which are full of half-truths and lies to get us to believe that an Idaho call is the proper thing to do.
Unfortunately, many American citizens have been duped into believing that another convention is necessary. They have not thoroughly studied Constitution history to learn the fallacy of having a second, dangerous convention!
Article V was included in the US Constitution for only one reason. That reason was if there was a major flaw in the Constitution. In 236 years, no flaws have been found. James Madison, considered The Father of the Constitution, warned against a second convention. He said it would be dangerous! The US Constitution is not defective, but elected officials who take an oath to abide by it and do not, they are defective and should be replaced.
Since the Constitution is largely ignored now with its individual liberties and limitations on the federal government, what would lead us to believe that politicians would abide by new convention amendments?
All 27 of the present amendments to our US Constitution have resulted from Congress passing the amendment and having three fourths of the States ratify them. That is the proper way to amend the Constitution. Article V is incorrectly being used by the left and mis-guided conservatives to radically change it. That would be a huge mistake which would destroy the individual liberties and freedoms of our present Constitution.
If a second convention is held, we do not have the statesmen like the Founding Fathers that included George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and many other great patriots. A second convention will likely not be held behind closed doors as was the first convention. A second convention will likely destroy our individual liberties and freedoms now in The Bill of Rights and our national sovereignty. Do you want that?
Once the convention is called by the necessary 34 states, the states will have nothing to do with the procedures, rules and even ratification process. Perhaps it would be ratified by only a majority of states or a national referendum. Out God-inspired Constitution will be at the mercy of those why want destroy our Bill of Rights and will likely radically change the second amendment. (Note: California has prepared an amendment which is a major change in the Second Amendment to largely remove individual gun possession). Note: Historically, dictators have eliminated private gun ownership to institute their oppressive tyranny. That seems to be coming to America.
A historical note: Especially since the 1980’s, the leftists/Socialists have been trying to get their hands on our Constitution. In the 80’s, it was the Equal Rights Amendment that was the excuse for having a convention. It required 34 states to call for a convention. 32 states had signed on. It was the pro-American, anti-Communist John Birch Society and Eagle Forum along with Latter-Day Saints Church members obeying leaders that stopped the convention call. Fortunately, 10 states including Idaho rescinded their calls for a convention!
The bottom line: Please oppose all bills calling for a Conference of States which would lead to a second, dangerous, run-a-way convention that would likely be controlled by leftists/Socialists, the mainstream media and Big Tech.
