Riverside Hotel Caves to Leftist Threats, Cancels IFF Event

Losing our Freedom of Speech

A few days ago, the Idaho Freedom Foundation (IFF) was forced to change the venue for their dinner because of threats or pressure from the left to the Riverside Hotel management, presumably about their guest speaker Charles Murray.

Governor Otter keeps telling us that we are the reddest of the red states, yet having something like this happen at the Riverside Hotel—one of the stalwart venues for hosting political and conservative events—shows an acquiesce to the scare tactics of the extreme left. This is a sad day for Idahoans when we have establishments like the Riverside Hotel caving into threats by any group, and to us, it means a loss of freedom to all of Idaho’s citizens.

We all realize that Idaho is changing, but we have to be aware that we are the only ones that can hold on to our freedoms. The fact that such a long standing conservative venue for events like the Riverside giving in to the potential of harassment by the left has to tell us that we are losing that battle.

Because they don’t like the Speaker

Charles Alan Murray, the IFF’s guest speaker for the event, is an American libertarian conservative political scientist, author, and columnist. His book Losing Ground: American Social Policy 1950–1980 (1984), which discussed the American welfare system, was widely read and discussed and influenced subsequent government policy. He became well-known for his controversial book The Bell Curve (1994), written with Richard Herrnstein, in which he argues that intelligence is a better predictor than parental socioeconomic status or education level of many individual outcomes including income, job performance, pregnancy out of wedlock, and crime; and that social welfare programs and education efforts to improve social outcomes for the disadvantaged are largely wasted.

Murray’s most successful subsequent books have been Human Accomplishment: The Pursuit of Excellence in the Arts and Sciences, 800 B.C. to 1950 (2003) and Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960–2010 (2012). Over his career, he has published dozens of books and articles. His work has drawn accusations of scientific racism. (The above information on Charles Murry came from Wikipedia)

Another Attack on our Freedom of Speech

Once again, the left is attacking our freedom of speech and the Freedom Foundation is the target. It’s time we had a down-to-earth conversation about freedom of speech and pushing back at these leftist clowns who are using terrorist tactics to enjoin anything they don’t want to be said to the public. These are the same people who have been protesting and rioting ever since Donald Trump won the election, and we believe that a line is slowly being drawn and in the not too distant future, we will see a real conflict if cooler heads do not prevail.

It is time everyone respected the fact that freedom of speech is a God-given right, not something to be controlled by anyone. We live in America, not Russia or China. Our forefathers fought for our rights and we should not allow anyone to take away any of our freedoms that were garnered by the blood, sweat, and tears of those who put this great country together.

These types of threats should not be tolerated

We took the time to call the Riverside Hotel and inquire as to why the venue canceled the event, but we received no answer. We’re not sure what threats were made to the Riverside Hotel that made them so fearful of this speaker or this event as this event has been held for many years at this hotel. They could have certainly brought in enough security to protect the people and their property; after all, isn’t this where the GOP holds most of their election parties and they never seem to have a security problem with them. What are they going to cancel next if they get threats?

Maybe it’s time to rethink using this venue for our political events and find another one which is not so easily moved by threats? We haven’t heard anything from our Governor or for that matter any of our other politicians on this matter. Could it be that they too are afraid to confront these crazy leftists for fear of reprisal? This should not be happening anywhere in Idaho for any event. Do we need to go back to the days of the old west and require everyone coming to an event to carry a firearm, would that make everyone a bit more comfortable? What do you think?

The Idaho Freedom Foundation event will now be held at Château des Fleurs in Eagle, Idaho. The address is 176 S. Rosebud Lane in Eagle. Same time same date.
