Disinformation

While many of us wish we could go back to simpler times when you could go fishing or hiking and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature without being interrupted by the ding or the buzz of a cell phone. I contend that these devices have and continue to be used to reshape the minds of those who use them and are nothing more than constant distractions. If it is not TikTok, it is some other social media platform that is changing us into a bunch of social media junkies. We don’t realize that social media is the mainline for the distribution of misinformation, especially for the Gen Z’s who have literally grown up with this instantaneous method of communication.

Over the past 10 years, those of us who are rational and reasonable have seen how these new devices and platforms have distributed half-truths and lies by those who would like to destroy our republic. Americans has been misled for over two decades since the introduction of instantaneous communications and a variety of social media platforms that have made billions by reaping the information gleaned from their subscribers. What they give us back is a world of slanted news and disinformation to influence our decisions on not only what to buy but who to vote for.

We all seem to forget the saying if you’re not paying for something, you’re not the customer, you’re the product, which is what we all are when we utilize these social media platforms. Recently, I traded in my old cell phones for new ones, and, of course, the new ones were free. Well, it didn’t take long before I found that this new free phone was infested with lord knows how many apps that give me information, but also gather information on me. While I have eliminated many of them, there are still some that I just can’t seem to jettison from my phone.

We live in a very deceptive world where the truth is no longer what it used to be as it is bent and reshaped by so many entities, especially the legacy media companies, that it is impossible to sift through the mountains of information to find the TRUTH. We are only finding out in the past couple of weeks that the whole Russia scam was a setup by President Obama and the directors of our own intelligence agencies. Their objective was to delegitimize Trump’s presidency after his victory over Hillary Clinton. To be sure, those who are trying to destroy our country will be hard at work continuing to pass along disinformation, and it will be up to the people to discern what is true and what is not.

Pew Research found that 53% of Americans admitted it was difficult to determine what was true and what was not from the general news, and 28% struggled to find reliable information about the 2024 election. I don’t believe it matters who you are or what you think; we are all susceptible to disinformation; however, several large studies concluded that Gen Z, the elderly over 70, and those with lower levels of formal education are the most susceptible. What I also found interesting is that those identifying as politically conservative were some of the most vulnerable to misinformation.

The world we live in is not required to give us the truth and as long as the major media corporations are controlled by the left we must decide for ourselves what is and is not true. This is why the education of our children is so important, because this is where the disinformation starts. The left was born 60 years ago, and this is why we find radical political figures like socialist Mamdani running for mayor of N.Y.C. today. We live in a world filled with misinformation, and we are dealing with a real problem, as many Americans have lost their ability to think critically, and that must change if we are to rid ourselves of the propagandists who saturate us daily with lies. Might I suggest we start by banning cell phones from our schools.

Hulk Hogan, who just passed, was like many other Americans who lost perspective but most recently gained it back when he accepted God and was baptized along with his wife, Sky. It is old guys like me and Hogan who grew up in the 1940s and 50s before the advent of the Great Society that can look back and have some real perspective on how things have changed. I contend that our country started its transition back in the 60s with the advent of Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society”. It was around this time that our school curricula introduced discussions on topics like civil rights, the Vietnam War, and the feminist movement, and they encouraged students to think critically about the world around them. While they wanted them to think critically, they were creating socially conscious individuals who actively engaged in the shaping of our society. Our education system encouraged open dialogue, empowering students to become agents of change, and so the protest demonstrations began. Teachers encouraged discussions and debate, engaging in political activism, and created the disinformation that has changed our society.

This was the beginning of the counterculture and hippie movement, rejecting materialism and creating alternative lifestyles, which led to the religious crisis of the 1960s. This was the advent of liberal vs conservative Christianity that became more militant as the century wore on. The division between liberalism and conservatism continued to grow to the point that we came perilously close to losing our republic. After 8 years of Obama and 4 years of the incompetent Biden, Trump was the monkey wrench that was thrown into this great disinformation scheme to save our country. The battle still rages as the left will not give up and continues to spit out propaganda like Joseph Goebbels during WWII. It was 10 years ago that the Gem State Patriot Facebook page was censored after receiving one million hits. The watchers at Facebook didn’t like what we were printing, so they regulated us down to a reach of ten thousand. This was a wake-up call to me that social media was nothing more than a scam to limit any information they did not agree with. We all knew that people like Zuckerberg were distributing misinformation, but what we didn’t know is that our government INTEL agencies had gained control over them and other platforms and were directing them to purge conservative thought from these social networks.

I no longer spend any time on social media except for the occasional post on Truth Social, as I have found that it is more important to reach a much smaller audience that are actually interested in what we at the Gem State Patriot have to say. Our motto is Knowledge Is Power as Silence is Consent and we take that very seriously. Each morning, I go down to my office and tap into a few honest news sources and feel comfortable that I’m not being scammed. I want our readers to feel the same way when they click on the Gem State link. The reelection of Donald Trump has certainly changed the world we live in, but the naysayers from the left continue to distribute disinformation like it was free cotton candy at a carnival. As the truth continues to come out about the atrocities perpetrated by the Obama and Biden administrations, it is comforting to know that the America I grew up in and loved is back. How long it will stay here is the big question. Will this reprieve be for six months, a couple of years, or maybe a decade? The left is like a poisonous viper crawling through the weeds, looking to strike and destroy this great country we call America. If we are not diligent, they will be back with a vengeance to complete the work they started.
