The Democrats are taking control of the House of Representatives this upcoming legislative session, and it seems their agenda is already increasingly radical. Previously, they have expressed their animosity towards gun-ownership and have a plan to stop mass shootings. So now they are rolling up their sleeves and formulating tougher gun control laws to be implemented in 2019. But where will it stop: The elimination of the Second Amendment? A few amendments? The entire Constitution?
Our God-given right to keep and bear firearms was secured for us when America’s Founders added the Second Amendment to our Constitution in 1791. It was established with a purpose: self-defense from a tyrannical government.
But Mike Thompson (D –C.A.), chairman of the House Gun Violence Protection Task Force, is ready to make a strong attack on the Second Amendment. However, his proposal for universal background checks is not as extreme as Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell, who is calling for all assault weapons, including semi-automatic pistols or hunting rifles, to be surrendered to the government. And if Americans don’t surrender their self-defense weapons, he has threatened to criminally prosecute those in defiance, with nuclear weapons!
Now this has only been speculated, but it gives us a preview of what could come if we don’t stand up for our rights now. Stopping at criminal background checks is not what some gun control promoters have in mind. Retired Justice John Paul Stevens has also strongly suggested stricter laws and, in fact, the elimination of the Second Amendment. He comments (March 2018) on gun control demonstrations and the push to enact legislation:
These demonstrations demand our respect. They reveal the broad public support for legislation to minimize the risk of mass shootings of schoolchildren and others in our society… but the demonstrations should seek more effective and more lasting reform. They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment.
Calling to repeal the Second Amendment is a huge attack on liberty! The right to self-defense is not transferable to the government as it protects us from a tyrannical government. Every citizen has a right to self-defense and the defense of others. If we wish to preserve American rights, taking a stand against an overpowering federal government that is seeking more power is necessary.
Remind others that an attack on the Second Amendment is an attack on our entire Constitution, because if America decides to rip apart this crucial amendment, the rest will fall like dominoes. Besides gun control laws not solving the issue at hand, they actually lead to more crimes because they are disarming law abiding citizens. Meanwhile, criminals don’t obey gun control laws. Help secure your right to keep and bear arms before it’s too late! Take action today!
