Let’s me start off with the statement that the “Media Doesn’t Need Solidarity, It Needs Accountability”
Jim Acosta of CNN is nothing more than an irrelevant, loud mouth circus barker who wouldn’t know a good news story from one of Grimms’ fairy tales. The more Acosta speaks out, the less relevant he becomes. It is a sad day when the president’s press secretary has to put up with the rantings of the likes of someone who is less accomplished than my dog Max when it comes to reporting the news. He is nothing more than an instigator who is trying to become recognized as a somebody when he is really a nobody.
Trump is not the first president to be attacked by the press. John Adams, our second president, was so concerned about the foreign influence of the French on our press, he signed into law the 1798 Sedition Act, which made publishing anything critical of the government illegal. Thomas Jefferson, of course, put an end to that when he became president in 1800.
Theodore Roosevelt despised the press and called them a bunch of muckrakers for their sensationalism and false reporting. Roosevelt said the media were Liars, no better than thieves, and if mendacity takes the form of slander they may be worse than most thieves. He even tried to sue newspapers for their coverage of the purchase of the Panama Canal rights.
JFK fostered secrecy and deception especially during the crisis with Cuba. Kennedy shut off access to foreign policy information and went so far as to ask the press to censor itself when it came to reporting on the Bay of Pigs. The press didn’t like that policy and the Baltimore Sun wrote “New Censor Rules Recall the days of Joseph Goebbels,” the Nazi propaganda chief.
Lyndon Johnson was despised by the press and accused of lying and lacking credibility. By 1967, the White House press corps and the media, in general, were so turned off by Johnson’s never-tiring efforts to manipulate, seduce, and punish them, they had begun to write about the ‘credibility gap’ between what Johnson said and what he did.
Richard Nixon called the press “the elites” and threatened to fire his press secretary if he didn’t keep media out of the White House. He sai,d “I want it clearly understood from now on, no reporter from the Washington Post is ever to be in the White House.” You could almost hear the same words being spoken by President Trump.
Does everyone forget how Obama ravaged Fox News for the 8 years he was in office? Does anyone remember this comment in 2008, “I am convinced that if there were no Fox News, I might be two or three points higher in the polls”? Or how about 2010, when he said this in an interview with Rolling Stone, “I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view. It’s a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world. But as an economic enterprise, it’s been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number-one concern is, it’s that Fox is very successful.”
How about this beauty when he was in a private meeting with labor leaders telling them Fox News was partly responsible for him “losing white males” who tune into Fox and “hear Obama is a Muslim 24/7.” In 2016, Obama blamed Fox News for the Democrats losing the election because “Fox News was in every bar and restaurant in huge chunks of the country.”
So while we are seeing these unseemly attacks on Trump, he has plenty of good company and we believe he has handled it better than most of his predecessors as today, he has the advantage of going around them with his social media accounts. So while the ratings of the major left-wing news media are going down the toilet, President Trump’s continue to rise to the 50% level.
The war of words may continue for some time, but the important thing is that the economy improves each and every day and Americans are beginning to notice that their wallets are a little fatter than when Obama was in office. If we want to continue to see these improvements in our economy, we need to make sure that we have a Republican House and Senate in the upcoming mid-term elections, so if you like the fact that you have more money in your pocket, remember to go to the polls and vote Republican in November.
