The U.S. is at the bottom of the list when it comes to food quality and safety. Our food supply is constantly being tainted with pesticides and herbicides which leave residues not just on the plants but in the ground they grow in. Roundup is one of those dastardly chemicals sprayed by the millions of tons on our crops each growing season degrading the ground upon which they are sprayed and leaving it devoid of important microbes. Chemicals like Roundup destroy beneficial soil microbes which is the life blood of plants and leaves them stripped of their bio-potential. Mycotoxins form from yeast and fungi that develop on foods grown in microbe-deficient soils and are literally found everywhere in our food supply, but are found most often in grains and are more prone to be found in processed, non-organic foods.
Many Chemicals added to our food are banned in most industrialized foreign countries such as coloring agents like Blue#1 & #2 Red #40, not to mention artificial growth hormones added to milk, antibiotics in meat, poultry and fish. Just look at the double standard in Food Quality between the U.S. and the U.K.
McDonalds Fries:
U.K. — Potatoes, vegetable oil, dextrose (Sugar) and salt.
U.S. — Hydrogenated vegetable oil, artificial “beef” flavoring derived from hydrolyzed wheat and milk, preservatives, sodium acid pyrophosphate, and assorted of other highly-processed oils, a chemical known as TBHQ (tert-Butylhydroquinone) that keeps these oils from tasting rancid, and a plastic-like Silly Putty chemical known as dimethylpolysiloxane that keeps the deep-fried mess from foaming during the cooking process.
Kraft’s Macaroni & Cheese an all American favorite is another product with double standards.
U.K. — Unbleached durum wheat semolina, a FAR superior form of wheat than the heavily processed “enriched” wheat used in the U.S. variety, cheese powder, whey powder, lactose, salt, emulsifying salts, and all-natural coloring agents derived from paprika and beta-carotenes, the flavonoid pigments found naturally in fruits and vegetables.
U.S. — Enriched “macaroni product” containing a laundry list of synthetic “vitamins” and additives such as niacin, ferrous sulfate (iron), thiamin mononitrate (B1), riboflavin (B2), and folic acid, sodium tripolyphosphate, a surfactant chemical, sodium phosphate, calcium phosphate, yellow food colorings #5 and #6, both of which are linked to hyperactivity in children, migraine headaches, anxiety, and blurred vision.
There is a reason that America is subjected to this barrage of food chemicals while most of the rest of the world gets to consume much cleaner foods products because of their public policy. The American regulatory system has been disintegrating slowly over the years because of corporate lobbyists convincing legislators that these chemicals they use are non-toxic and safe. In the U.S. you have to prove that these chemicals are not safe for human consumption if you want them to be removed from your food.
Many of us have figured out that there are problems with the processed foods we eat and have changed to organic, and we have seen more organic products showing up in our supermarkets and local grocery stores. It pays to read the labels on the food you’re buying and get to know what is good for you and your family and what you should avoid. Better safe than sorry.
