Dear Legislator:
I’m not sure how bill S1231 came into existence, but I’m sure it had nothing to do with the modernizing of language as stated in you statement of purpose. This is an out and out retraction of services that have been allowed by Chiropractic physicians for many years, and it makes us wonder if there is not an ulterior motive to place this restriction for the use of vitamin and mineral IV or injection therapy to force patients to move to allopathic doctors. This is a movement which has been going on for years as the allopathic vie to limit the ability and practice of alternative medicine. These Chiropractors have been providing a badly needed service to those who prefer alternative medicine; why does the legislature have the right to take this service away from the general public? Ask yourself the question: have there been complaints from the public, or have there been medical complications because of this practice? I think you will find that the answer is a resounding NO.
When my wife was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer we decided to take the alternative medicine route. This is our right, and freedom of choice but we could not find a doctor locally that would be able to administer IV vitamin C as it has been proven to be an effective alternative treatment for cancer. We instead had to drive to Seattle to a Naturopathic Clinic to get the consultation we needed to proceed with this therapy. At that time we were unaware of any doctors in the alternative medicine arena in Idaho that could help us. Now that we know these doctors are available, you are ready to take them away from us. You may wish to deal with allopathic medicine, but it should not be up to you to deny us the right to our alternative medicine choices.
Allopathic medicine only seems to address diseases with medications which have proven to be unsuccessful for too many years. Take the case of the U.S. maker of OxyContin painkiller that was required to pay $600 million fine in a guilty plea to resolve the criminal charge of misbranding its product and misled doctors into believing the drug was less likely to be abused than traditional narcotics. Death statistics analysis from 2009 for the first time ever show more people were killed by drugs than motor vehicle accidents, and drug fatalities have more than doubled among teens and young adults between 2000 and 2008.
The IV infusions of vitamins like ascorbic acid have a long history of safety and the ability to cure many diseases when administered in the proper dosages and are proven safe even in extremely high doses. Dr. Thomas E Levy, MD, JD wrote a great book on “Curing the Incurable” with Vitamin C with over 1,200 scientific references which everyone should read. Why would you want to restrict the use of something that a patient wants to help cure their illness that they can’t get from and allopathic physician? It is difficult at best to find an allopathic doctor to use vitamin IV supplement to cure a disease as they would prefer to prescribe a drug instead. Alternative medicine and nutritional therapy is becoming an important part of the medical field in countries like Canada, England, Germany Japan and even New Zealand where the focus is on results not rulings by the “Drug Lords” at the FDA. You have just passed a bill to allow experimental drugs to be used on those that are dying. Why would you want to restrict alternative medicine doctors from administrating potentially lifesaving harmless supplements to those patients who are in the same circumstance but are not dealing with an allopathic doctor?
You don’t have the right to restrict our choice of healthcare and you may someday need this very alternative healthcare to cure you or a loved one of a disease that the allopathic medicine does not have a remedy or a drug to cure. You need to think long and hard before making this type of decision as you are removing the freedom of choice from all the citizens of Idaho. We don’t need or want our legislators making our healthcare choices for us. I respectfully ask you to vote a resounding no on this bill.
