We reported recently that <a href=\"https:\/\/keepidahofree.org\/sandpoint-idaho-spends-224k-on-56-trash-cans\/\">the city wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars on 56 overpriced trashcans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now the city finds itself in the midst of another controversial issue. The Festival at Sandpoint, which is run by a non-profit company, banned citizens at War Memorial Park from carrying their firearms. The park in question is public property.<\/p>\n<p>Under <a href=\"https:\/\/legislature.idaho.gov\/statutesrules\/idstat\/title18\/t18ch33\/sect18-3302j\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Idaho Statute 18-3302J<\/a>, cities are prohibited from enforcing gun bans on public property. If a city doesn\u2019t have the authority to regulate the possession of firearms on public property, then it can\u2019t give authority to a private entity to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The city, however, stood by its ban and said it has no intention of reversing its decision.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens and organization in Idaho immediately began to challenge the city on their violation of state law. The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, Idaho\u2019s premier no-compromise gun right group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/IdahoSecondAmendmentAlliance\/photos\/a.224243334391893\/1337369456412603\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>is looking into legal challenges against the city<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Bonner County Commissioners have also sent a letter through their legal firm and asked the city to explain its actions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonnercountydailybee.com\/local_news\/20190823\/county_enters_festival_gun_fray\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>as reported recently in the Bonner County Daily Bee<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And now the Sheriff in Bonner County, Daryl Wheeler, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bonnercountysheriff1\/photos\/a.1456242128014115\/2116181368686851\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>has also informed the commissioners<\/strong><\/a> that if a lawsuit is filed against the city then he wants to be listed as a plaintiff in the suit!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-311\" src=\"https:\/\/keepidahofree.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/wheeler-letter-989x1280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1035\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the same Sheriff who also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/breaking-va-tries-to-confiscate-disabled-vets-guns-stopped-by-citizens-and-sheriff-standing-guard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>stood up to the Federal Government<\/strong><\/a> when they tried to take a Veteran\u2019s firearms.<\/p>\n<p>We are glad to see that a sheriff in Idaho is standing up to more corrupt officials infringing on the rights of Idahoans. Idaho must not allow radical leftists to violate our laws.
