For about five years she chaired Mormon Women for Ethical Government, a group that sued to overturn Idaho&#8217;s school-choice tax credit, a law Labrador&#8217;s office successfully defended. Every political donation on record goes to Democrats, including $5,000 to the Idaho Democratic Party in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hickman&#8217;s main argument is ethics and professionalism, backed by endorsements from former Republican attorneys general Lawrence Wasden and Jim Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Labrador&#8217;s strongest argument is results from his four years as Idaho\u2019s AG. Either figure is a record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hickman&#8217;s record<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hickman&#8217;s legal career is solid but entirely in private civil practice, and her most visible public role was leading a group that sued the state over school choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Background<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Raised in the Treasure Valley; Borah High School; BYU (business, magna cum laude, 1988); BYU law (cum laude, 1991). Married to Craig, three children; about 30 years in Boise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Career: Latham &amp; Watkins in New York; Holme Roberts &amp; Owen in Salt Lake City; associate general counsel at Micron (1996\u20132002); ten years at home raising children (2002\u20132012); federal court law clerk in Idaho (2012); McFarland Ritter since 2014.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No prosecutorial, law-enforcement or government-management experience found.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mormon Women for Ethical Government (MWEG)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>She chaired the group&#8217;s national board for about five years, stepping down shortly before her campaign.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The group calls itself nonpartisan. Critics, including former members and the watchdog InfluenceWatch, describe it as left-of-center: it called for President Trump&#8217;s second impeachment, aligned with Black Lives Matter in 2020, opposed Jim Jordan for House speaker, and is funded in part by the Gates, Hewlett and Packard foundations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In September 2025 MWEG joined the Idaho Education Association and others in suing to overturn Idaho&#8217;s Parental Choice Tax Credit (HB 93). Labrador&#8217;s office defended the law, the Idaho Supreme Court upheld it 5\u20130, and the challengers paid Idaho $70,000 in fees. The suit appears to have been filed while she chaired the board; her personal role in the decision is not documented.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Idaho chapter, led by former Democratic superintendent candidate Cindy Wilson, also testified in 2022 against a bill adding reporting requirements for refugee-assistance groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Money and politics<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Her campaign reported $173,433 in itemized contributions through Sept. 29, 2026, mostly small Idaho donors (median gift $50); $9,597 came from out of state.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Top donors: A.J. Balukoff, the 2014 Democratic nominee for governor ($10,000), and a James Jones ($5,000), likely the former AG who endorsed her.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Her own giving since 2024 has gone only to Democrats: Reps. Ilana Rubel and Sonia Galaviz, Sen. Janie Ward-Engelking, Ada County Democrats, and $5,000 to the Idaho Democratic Party in June 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Her case to voters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She runs on ethics and &#8220;professionalism over politics,&#8221; promising to stop what she calls culture-war lawsuits. &nbsp;No bar discipline was found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Questions to ask<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Hickman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Did you vote, as MWEG board chair, to join the lawsuit against Idaho&#8217;s school-choice tax credit?
