The Systematic Gaslighting of America

How Liberal Media and Big Tech are destroying our country

Gaslighting is not something new and if we go back through history, you will find that gaslighting bears a remarkable resemblance to what we would call “Propaganda” back in the 1940s. Gaslighting as presented by Wikipedia is a colloquialism, loosely defined as manipulating someone so as to make them question their own reality. Propaganda according to Wikipedia is communication primarily used to influence or persuade an audience to further an agenda. They do this by selectively presenting facts to encourage a particular synthesis or perception that will produce an emotional rather than a rational response to information being presented. While the words are different the intention and the objective are similar. It is to influence the populace to a certain way of thinking and the reason we bring this up is it is happening now before our very eyes in our everyday mass media.

It is critical for Americans to understand that the major media outlets have been under consolidation since the 1980s. Around fifty years ago, 90% of our media was owned by 50 companies and since that time there has been an enormous consolidation of these companies to the point that there are now just 5 corporations that control 90% of the media that we consume daily. This does not include the huge technology and social media companies like Google and Facebook that have invaded our homes through the internet and telecommunications services over the past decade. This media consolidation also means less local news as of 2016 the five major companies have snapped up 37% of local media stations which is important because local TV news shows attract 25 million or more viewers far more than all the national cable programs like FOX and CNBC. In essence, we have gone from a media landscape in the ’80s controlled by 50 companies to a group of 5 consolidated near-monopolies which have interconnected directorships and barely escape the threshold of enforcement of our antitrust laws.

The question we ask you is there any real difference between “Propaganda of the 1940’s and Gaslighting of the 2020’s”? We have determined after careful research that there is no preceptive difference as both are interested in basically the same thing proliferation of “Disinformation” to manipulate our beliefs, attitudes, and actions to conform to a certain way of thinking. We are being manipulated in such a way that we are watching our culture change without realizing it, and this has caused our country to become split 50/50 down the middle with respect to the U.S. population’s political leanings. This is a process that has been going on for nearly 50 years and it has happened so slowly that most Americans don’t even realize the change that has taken place. Our two-party political landscape in essence has become a one-party system to benefit the bureaucrats who run things as opposed to the people having a real say in our government. We the people wind up paying for whatever whim or fancy our bureaucratic government decides is necessary while the mass media condones and supports their decisions. We no longer control our own destiny, it is the bureaucrats that control what we eat when we retire, how much we make or can take home after taxes, what kind of cars we can drive and what kind of fuel we can use to heat our homes. So, while the government controls what we can have and do the media tries to control how we think. Take liberal media TV programs which for the past several years have become a new system to promote wokeness. You can barely find a commercial that is not ethnically pervasive or a TV show that is not promoting through the programming of their most popular shows acceptance of trans genderism, LGBTQ, or wokeness to racism. We are under attack with gaslighting/propaganda that is unrelenting, and it is no different with social media. We now have information that there has even been collusion between the Biden administration and Big Tech in promoting certain kinds of censorship. Our freedom to think for ourselves and our freedom of speech are under attack by the bureaucrats that run the left and it will continue until we change our ways.

If you want to change the thinking of a country, you have to start with the youth and what they are taught in their classrooms every day. You will have to be willing to turn off your computers and cell phones to the constant barrage of useless misinformation that is transmitted by the liberal media cabal. If we are to change the tide of misinformation, we are going to have to turn off our TVs and social media platforms that are trying to teach Wokeness with every program and commercial that is presented to us. These two forms of media are responsible for much of the discourse in our youth of today and the reason so many of them have moved more to the left with each new generation. While public schools have been a part of our country’s education system going back to the 1800s and continues today, what and how they teach has changed substantially in order to bring about radical change in the attitudes of our youth. Many of us ask the question “what is the alternative to public education”, when most parents both work and our schools have become daycare centers for their children. Every day as we see the discourse on our college and university campuses which should make many of us wonder what the heck, they are teaching our children? It is interesting to note that during the covid pandemic when many school systems were shut down many parents took to homeschooling their children, and many have found it to be a better way to educate them. Maybe the alternative is that we allow parents to take the tax money normally given to public schools and give it directly to the parents to pay for the homeschooling or private and charter schools of their choosing.

The answer should be simple but most of us don’t want to hear the obvious as we have become our own worst enemy. We have permitted our local Boards of Education to make changes to our school curriculums that push CRT and Wokeness because of our inattention to what our children are being taught. When we become inattentive, we open the door for those liberal educators to augment these curriculums which may be objectionable to us had we taken the time to pay attention. When we don’t attend school board and PTA meetings or vote for the election of school board members, we put our children into the hands of those educators who may not agree with our educational objectives. When we are not involved, we lose any knowledge of what our children are being taught. By not participating in the decision-making process of approving curriculums and teaching methods we leave our children open to whatever impressions the teachers and board members want to feed them. I believe our education system is broken and much of the blame can be placed on the parents’ inability to get involved. When we don’t participate in the education, we have seen how liberal minded educators teach our children that guns are bad and trans gendering is ok so they will put them on a track to hate guns and be on board with gender transitioning. While we have seen some push back in our education system lately, we have to wonder if it is to little to late or if it’s possible to turn it around by paying more attention to what our children are being taught. We have seen how the federal government feels about parental interference in public education by the heavy-handedness of our Department of Justice calling those who speak out at board of education meetings “terrorists”.

How did we get here, when did this major systemic change in what our children are taught start and what are the consequences? In June of 1962, the U.S. Supreme Court declared school-sponsored prayers unconstitutional in the landmark case Engel v. Vitale. In 1963 once again the Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that devotional Bible reading or other government-sponsored religious activities in public schools was unconstitutional. These were two of the saddest days in American history as God was literally kicked out of our education system. It has also helped to change the way Americans think about education in public schools. Many evangelists and politicians will tell you that eliminating school-sponsored prayer, set America on the road to moral and spiritual decay. We believe this was also the beginning of a culture change in how our children think. The left will tell you the Court ruled that, under the establishment clause of the First Amendment, “it is no part of the business of government to compose official prayers for any group of the American people to recite as a part of a religious program carried on by government yet if you go back through our history, we find that our country was founded on Christian principals. They also contend that children certainly have the right to pray alone or in groups as long as they are not disruptive or interfere with the rights of others. We know how easily children are influenced by teachers and peer pressure so please don’t think for a minute that there was much encouragement by them to tell their students that they can start prayer groups or pray quietly by themselves. While today you will find some schools with children praying in private groups it is not the norm and we don’t believe it is encouraged by many of today’s educators.

We believe the historical combination of gaslighting/propaganda from the consolidation in the 1980’s of our media companies has served to move America culturally to the left. It is our education system that has done an end run around the parents in what our children have been taught for the past 60 years that has changed the very make up and culture of our country into the dichotomy that has taken place in America today. We have become a divided nation not because we wanted it to be this way but because of the pervasiveness of the left slowly but surely changing the culture using our public education system. The liberal media continues to push Americans more to the left while our education system continues to teach our children how bad America really is. If we do not change what is happening in our country, we may soon realize that we have lost this Greatest Experiment in freedom. This miracle called America will be destroyed from within by the very people we have elected to govern us. We have allowed systemic corruption to invade the very fabric of our Republic.

Does anyone remember the infamous quote by President Eisenhower in his 1961 farewell address where he said “Beware of the military industrial complex” because of its increasing power. What a profound statement from someone who had witnessed as commanding general of the U.S. military and as president of the U.S.A. for decades how our country was changing. Now we are seeing it coming to pass in real life up close and personal. We only need to see the many senseless wars which have killed so many of our young men and women that we never had any intention of winning. Now we are faced with yet another potential war with Russia because of the support we are giving to the Ukraine. Those of us who have served in the military know that war is hell, and it is always the politicians who get us into these wars but fight them. They sit in Washington spewing out their platitudes telling us how important it is to win this battle when in essence we should probably never have entered the war in the first place. Donald Trump was right about one thing for sure when he said, “We more and more are not wanting to be the policemen of the world,” as we spend tremendous amounts of both human and monetary resources on senseless policies of aggression. Today we once again, we find ourselves being drawn into another war by the liberal media’s propaganda promoting the necessity of backing the Ukraine’s war with Russia. It almost seems that you can’t get elected unless you buy into our continued policing of the world.

So where do we go from here? Good question but I’m not sure there is yet an answer. There are a couple of historical quotes that come to mind. One prolific one credited to Ben Franklyn “It’s a Republic if you can keep it” and the other by Abraham Lincoln, “A house divided against itself cannot stand”. Both of these quotes are relevant in today’s world. I’m not sure we can stop the diametrically opposed factions in our country from literally tearing it apart for the sake of getting their way. What we need to find is a path to mend the rift that is taking place in our country. We know that the liberal media plays a huge part in keeping America split while social media platforms do all they can to keep us from finding out the truth by the manipulation of the information they give us access to. We also know that our public school system is badly broken along with our higher learning institutions that charge exorbitant sums for tuition to learn how to become WOKE. The question is how do we go about changing this treadmill we have been on for the past 50 years? I personally believe that nothing will change until Americans wake up and see how they have been played by the people they have elected to govern us. They must also realize that 90% of the information they receive from liberal media is totally biased and unreliable. As long as we allow the media to do our thinking for us and our politicians to run rip shod over our constitution we will continue on the road to perdition.

It’s unfortunate that only a few patriots will read this message because they are not the ones we are trying to reach, it is the other 70 or 80% of the population that are too busy making a living who either don’t have time or don’t want to be bothered reading an article like this one. If you are a reader of the Gem State Patriot, we ask that you send this article to some of your friends who need to be informed about these issues. It is time for Americans to get off Big Tech platforms and Biased Liberal Media broadcasting content. Only you can change the direction of our country by taking affirmative action against these two enemies of freedom.

“…Many Americans have an undying faith in the media and thus revere this man-made entity without realizing they are doing so. These people usually consider anything printed or spoken by the media as gospel, and this is precisely how these opinion-shapers would have it.

“People who idolize the media are, at the best, naïve:

‘The simple [naïve] believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.’ (Proverbs 14:15)

“We are to live “by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of YHWH” (Deuteronomy 8:3). The word of everyone else should be judged by “the mouth of two or three witnesses” (2 Corinthians 13:1).

“Howard Beal of Network described the media:

‘If you want truth, don’t come to us. We will tell you anything but the truth. Go to God.… Go to your gurus, go to yourselves. But, don’t come to us.… Your lives are real, we are an illusion.’36

“That is what an idol is: an illusion….

“The impression of an independent press in America is part of the illusion. In 1898, at an annual dinner of the American Press Association, John Swinton, the one-time editor-in-chief of the New York Times, was called upon to toast journalism and America’s free press. He responded in a surprising way:

‘There is no such thing in America as an independent press, unless it is in the country towns.38 You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write his honest opinions, and if you did you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid $150.00 a week for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with—others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things—and any of you who would be so foolish as to write his honest opinions would be out on the street looking for another job. The business of the New York journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to revile, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and to sell his race and his country for his daily bread. You know this and I know it, and what folly is this to be toasting an “Independent Press.” We are tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks; they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.’39
