If you were an owner or an investor in an abortion clinic in California future business couldn’t be looking better. I know such a person and he sent me the following information from the Guttmacher Institute—an organization that has always supported abortion. He considers himself to be “Pro Choice” I would like to ask upfront is Pro Choice a euphemistic literary device that replaces the reality of “death on demand”?
“Researchers estimate that California could see a nearly 3,000% increase in the number of people whose nearest legal abortion provider is in the state. California’s annual patient load could rise from 46,000 people to 1.4 million, according to a Guttmacher Institute report.”
There are a lot of people, businesses and organizations who have a vested interest in the abortion industry. Many professional organizations including The American College of Surgeons have issued statements expressing their disappointment in the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs that returned the issue back to the States. I look forward to statements from the Idaho Medical Association, the Idaho Hospital Association, and St. Luke’s. It will be interesting to see how health care professionals and physician and nursing organizations align themselves with this issue in Idaho. We have a Governor in Idaho who is Pro Life. Many of the advisors may not share his views. Don’t be surprised how the issue will be framed by the Idaho media and medical “experts” as being about “freedom and choice” of the mother, and the interest of the unborn baby boy or girl will be subjugated and marginalized.
Don’t be surprised by who will align themselves on the side of choice in Idaho. In the early nineties a Catholic Sister at St. Al’s opined that to support an ObGyn product line, Al’s might have to support an off-campus surgery center that would provide for abortions. “Ecclesiastical credible deniability” was alive and well even thirty years ago. To my knowledge it never came to pass. What about the captains of industry in Idaho?
Are they going to support women leaving the state to get their abortions? What about the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry? Will they be instigating and supporting for such employee benefits? What about teachers’ unions and State workers? Will they be given such benefits?
Come to think of it I haven’t heard from our Catholic Bishop or the Diocese of Boise about the Dobbs ruling, or maybe they made a statement, and the media has just suppressed the information.
I believe there are similarities between the Pro-Life movement of today and the abolitionist movement that germinated in the early years of our country’s founding with the adoption of our Constitution and The Northwest Ordinance. “Four Score and Seven Years” later 400,000 men died to free 4 million men and women held in chattel bondage. People on both sides of the slavery issues—many people in the industrial North were also pro-slavery, claimed a Biblical moral predicate for their positions. In the 15,000-year history of modern man, slavery had always been considered ethical in all societies and cultures. The abolitionist movement had its’ origins in the Christian Church. Christianity for the first time in history confronted slavery “En Masse” Where Christianity thrives today, slavery and political bondage is marginalized. Where it doesn’t—think China and Saudi Arabia, slavery and political suppression are alive and well.
Today the moral battle lines have been drawn. The moral, ethical, and legal predicates have been defined and set. The reason I love living in Idaho with a people who since its beginning have embraced a Western moral and political philosophy is because I share their values. Last year in the USA there were over 950,000′ abortions. There have been almost 70 million little baby boys and girls whose lives have been “medically terminated”—a euphemism, I would use other less politically correct terms in person, since Roe. I would be happy if there were zero abortions performed in Idaho, and I believe most Idahoans feel the same way.
Like slavery, abortion is wrong. There is no moral construct that has its foundations in Christian principles in either the Old or New Testaments that can support abortion. The witness and faith of Mary, in Jeramiah1:5 “I knew you before I formed you”, and our understanding of Covenant all inform what our positions should be. We should also remember that within some of our lifetimes we have seen “medical experts”, captains of industry, and politicians all support legal genocide and experimentation using human subjects without informed consent— all “legal”, and subsequently addressed by the Nuremberg Code and Article VII of the Helsinki Accords.
I would be happy knowing that abortions in Idaho would be almost non-existent. Let’s adopt an IDAHO CODE.
There is a “Bull Market” in California for abortions. Idaho is not California.
