President Trump gets it, but it unfortunately does not look like the Capitol Hill Republican “leadership” understands how to make the most of the #SchumerShutdown.
President Trump’s political operation has released a powerful ad calling Democrats “complicit” in the deaths of Americans murdered by illegal aliens:
Donald Trump was elected President to build the wall and keep American families safe from evil, illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes against lawful U.S. citizens, Yet, one year after President Trump’s Inauguration, Chuck Schumer and the Democrats continue to put the interests of illegal immigrants over those of Americans. Our new campaign ad draws attention to the stark contrast between ‘complicit’ Democrats and the President for his full commitment to build a wall and fix our border to protect Americans from drugs, murder and other atrocities.
President Trump also suggested in a tweet that Republicans pursue the “nuclear option” to get the government reopened. The so-called nuclear option would allow the Senate to vote on spending bills with a simple majority of members, no longer needing 60 votes to pass a motion to proceed.
However, while President Trump drives home the message that Democrats are on the side of illegal aliens, and the crime, corruption and degradation of our quality of life that Obama’s tsunami of illegal aliens has brought to our country, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has allegedly promised “centrist” Senators a vote on their amnesty bill.
Bloomberg’s Erik Wasson and Steven T. Dennis reported Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic leader Chuck Schumer will meet on a set of options to end the government shutdown that was hashed out by a bipartisan group of centrist senators, said Republican Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee.
Wasson and Dennis reported Sunday night that the leaders met separately with senators from their own parties, who presented the proposal to extend stopgap funding for the government through Feb. 8.
The deal the “centrists” want includes assurances that there would be a separate vote on legislation to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens – a proposal that President Trump already said, “was the opposite of what I campaigned on.”
Grassroots Republicans and supporters of President Trump’s conservative – populist agenda must understand that all this stalling around on the #SchumerShutdown is about one thing – and it isn’t funding the government – it is about Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan finding a way to pass a bill to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.
The 20 “centrist” senators from both parties who worked out a set of options to extend stopgap funding for the government, are only willing to do so if they get a commitment for a separate vote on the central demand of Democrats: Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.
Bloomberg’s team reports that Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL), the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate, called the discussions by the so-called moderates “constructive.”
Meaning he thinks Democrats are about to get their way on amnesty.
“They are anxious to find a solution and I’m hopeful,” Durbin said. “If enough Republicans join them, they could be a force to bring this to the right ending.”
And the “right ending” to Durbin is a procedure to assure a vote on the Democratic demand for legislation on immigration.
There is a slight glimmer of hope that the Republican Capitol Hill leadership understands the folly of making any deal on the Graham – Durbin amnesty bill.
Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the No. 2 Senate Republican, said he believes the government will remain closed on Monday. He said he’s “pretty confident” lawmakers will take up immigration issues in February, but that making any commitments “rewards bad behavior” by Democrats.
It is inconceivable to us that Republican “leaders” cannot grasp how strongly President Trump’s message resonates with their base, what a strong political position they now hold vis-à-vis the Democrats, and how the future of their majority now balances on a knife’s edge.
If they stand firm and refuse the Democrats’ demands to trade amnesty for ending the #SchumerShutdown and instead demand passage of the Goodlatte bill that has the support of the House conservatives, they can crush the Democrats in the 2018 midterms. However, if they give in and pair the Graham – Durbin amnesty bill with passage of the spending bill, they can count on their majority, and perhaps the Republican Party itself, evaporating before the ink dries on the bill.
We urge CHQ readers to call the toll free Capitol Switchboard (1-866-220-0044), ask for House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senator John Cornyn, tell them conservatives will bolt the GOP if they trade ending the #SchumerShutdown for amnesty for illegal aliens.
