As I sat down at my desk this morning and turned on the TV, I was met with the headline on Fox News that America and Israel were at war with Iran. The country that has consistently threatened the United States and Israel for the past 47 years is now under attack by two of the most advanced air forces in the world, raising the question: Can Iran survive? President Trump has been working hard to persuade Iran to acquiesce and give up its potential nuclear capability, to no avail. As I write this, we are only 9½ hours into this attack, and we have yet to hear from Iran’s leader, leaving the pressing question: Did he survive the first attacks targeting Iran’s leadership?
Iran and Iranian-backed forces are responsible for at least 886 U.S. military deaths since 1983, with the actual number likely exceeding 1,000. We should not forget the unprovoked attack on the Marine barracks in Beirut that killed 241 service members. Iran has been ruled by Ayatollah Khamenei for the past 37 years, and with the possibility of his death, there is now an opportunity to free the Iranian people from the iron grip of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
President Trump has taken the decisive action necessary to end the threat that Iran could soon possess a nuclear weapon and a missile system capable of delivering it to the United States. He has tried for many months to find a peaceful way to resolve this threat to our country. The leaders of Iran have continued to threaten ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel,’ and it took President Trump to finally say enough is enough and do something to end this number one state sponsor of terrorism. It is hard to imagine how emboldened this regime would be if it ever acquired the ability to launch a nuclear weapon that could reach the United States. We have not had a president in 47 years willing to do what President Trump is now doing as he tries not only to eliminate this serious threat but also to give Iranians the opportunity to form a new government and rebuild their country.
No one wants to go to war, but the threat of allowing a terrorist nation like Iran to have nuclear capability—a nation that has threatened time and again to destroy America—makes this attack not only necessary but inevitable. It was time to punch the bully in the nose because the alternative was totally unacceptable. The left is already screaming about this action, claiming Trump is violating the War Powers Act. They refuse to admit that they are the ones responsible for allowing this threat to build to such a dangerous level over the last two decades. They allowed this terrorist nation the opportunity to continue enriching uranium to make a nuclear weapon. Both Obama and Biden sent billions of dollars to Iran and removed sanctions, allowing them to sell their oil and make billions more to fund their terrorist activities.
When a country has weak leadership, it will always be subject to attack by aggressive nations. Fortunately, we have a leader who saw the danger and was willing to do something to stop their aggression and give the people of Iran an opportunity to take down their terrorist regime. From Operation ‘Midnight Hammer,’ which destroyed three of Iran’s underground nuclear facilities, to the current attack, President Trump has tried to negotiate a peaceful settlement to disarm Iran of nuclear capabilities. Iran was totally unwilling to accept this offer and now faces total regime change.
Iran’s reign of terror must end, and while this attack will risk the loss of American lives, it is the only way to ensure that our country will not become the target of an attack should they obtain a nuclear weapon and a delivery system that can reach our shores. Iran has been a thorn in the side of the Middle East for too many decades, and it is time for change. If the only way to achieve that is through war and the destruction of this terrorist regime, then so be it.
The left will continue to complain about President Trump’s order to attack Iran, saying that Congress alone can commit to an act of war, but they are lying. The propagandized left is already talking about oil shortages, and while there may be a short-term spike in the price of oil, Iran only produces 3.4 million barrels a day, which is minor in light of current world production. President Trump has taken decisive action in coordination with Israel to eliminate Iran’s continued threat of terrorism to the world. While there are Democratic members of our Congress who are protesting these actions, their protests are totally without merit. These are the same members who have done nothing to rein in the terror that Iran has spread by proxy across the world.
We must never forget 9/11, and we need to be ever vigilant so that our enemies never have the ability to harm our country. America has many enemies who would like to destroy our country and our way of life. That is why it is critical that the men and women we elect to make the decisions necessary to protect America are not only people of courage but also people of conscience. We need leaders who understand that a strong America is a safe America—from the police who protect our towns and cities to our military who keep us safe from foreign predators.
If you think for a minute that there are not terrorists waiting for an opportunity to attack us from within, you need to think again. Under Joe Biden’s administration, it is estimated that over 18,000 illegal aliens tied to terrorist organizations have entered our country. So far during fiscal year 2024, Border Patrol has encountered tens of thousands of illegal aliens from countries that could present a national security risk, including 2,134 Afghan nationals, 33,347 Chinese nationals, 541 Iranian nationals, 520 Syrian nationals, and 3,104 Uzbek nationals.
This morning, the Secretary-General of the U.N. condemned the U.S. actions against Iran. Let us remind the U.N. that the U.S. currently contributes $820 million of their total $3.72 billion budget—22%—and 26%, or $312 million, for the peacekeeping budget. It might be time for the U.S. to rethink our generous contributions to this organization.
