You have to wonder if Speaker Bedke has been listening to the Kevin Miller show because we have been talking about high uncompetitive taxes in our state for the past 4 or 5 months. Is it an epiphany they are having or is it worry over the primary elections.
In any case it’s nice to see that some of the legislators are finally trying to make us economically competitive with the states around us by lowering our tax burden but where were they 5 years ago or for that matter 10 years ago. Is it because many of them will be challenged in this upcoming primary that has gotten them off their easy chairs to propose some positive changes for our state? It’s nice to see them waking up but I still question their motives after all the 80 million tax cut proposed by Speaker Bedke is a step in the right direction but it is no more than a drop in the bucket when you’re talking about a budget of almost 21/2 billion dollars.
We must also keep in mind that the sales tax food exemption for those in the poverty belt and those 65 and older is not that much of a break with only $120.00 allowance per year. This would mean they would not be taxed on food costing up to $2,000.00 per year but how many couples or for that matter families of 4 or 5 how can manage on a food budget of $166.00 per month. Even food stamps pay more than that.
Why is it that politicians have to wait till they are at the edge of the cliff before they wake up and actually try to do something good? I applaud anyone who does something to help our state climb out of this recession but why did they wait so long. Why did they wait till we were number 50 in the country in wages and the state with the highest number of minimum wage jobs?
As far as the elections go I tell you that all of the things that the legislators are proposing to change our economy will take a while to change and that is only if they can get their proposals through the legislature.
People are not going to forget that they allowed the federal government to come into our state with the State Healthcare exchange which is going to cost 100 thousand Idahoans the loss of their insurance policies this year and raise the cost of most new policies.
The public is not going to forget that we still haven’t gotten legislation through on 2nd amendment rights or the fact that people don’t want Common Core and no one in the legislature is listening to them.
The establishment republicans may have more money but as Senator Crapo has repeated several times on the Kevin Miller show “money is important but having the grass roots is more important.” You can have all the money in the world but if you don’t have the trust of the people you will not win the election.
Just a quick comment on the proposal for required marriage courses in Colorado Tell me honestly what is the difference between telling a couple they have to take courses before they get married or telling them what kind of health insurance they have to buy. This is nothing but continued intrusion into our lives by big government.
Let’s change things in 2014. Hold your legislators accountable for what they have done and what they haven’t done for the citizens of Idaho. Make sure you are registered Republican in the upcoming primary. The cutoff date is March 14th. for registration.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Encouraging ‘anybody’ to make sure you are registered as republican in the primary is not good. Real Republicans have been removed from office by democrats who have done this as it bothers them NOT, to lie, especially in a Republican primary election. Ralph Smeed was right about RINO’s and, based on the Idaho Freedom Foundation grading of legislators voting records, Canyon County legislators are now mostly RINO’s. Appeal to Conservatives to awaken.
