As we turn on our TVs and witness the protesters in Minneapolis exercising their First Amendment right to free speech and protest, it is important to consider who is supporting these demonstrations. Having visited Minnesota and Minneapolis over the years for both business and pleasure, I can say that the current events are far removed from the character I once knew in the people who live and work there. It has been 21 years since my last visit, and it is remarkable how a place can change so significantly in a relatively short time.
Political Climate and Changing Dynamics
Minneapolis is just the latest sanctuary city to experience upheaval, signaling a broader pattern where left-leaning influences are dramatically affecting blue states and cities, often in defiance of established laws. The impact of four years of open-border policies is evident in how swiftly the country can transform. Contrary to the belief that these demonstrations are entirely spontaneous, there are extensive funding networks supporting them, particularly from NGOs whose aim is to obstruct and delay the deportation of illegal immigrants. The motivations behind these organizations raise questions about their intentions and the consequences of the increasing lawlessness observed in several blue American cities.
Organizations Behind the Demonstrations
To understand the financial backing of these protests, it is crucial to identify the groups involved and their motives for disrupting government actions and defending those who have entered the country illegally. Several radical leftist groups, including Indivisible Twin Cities, have received substantial funding from George Soros’s Open Society Foundations to support Anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis. Soros’s organization has contributed approximately $7.8 million to the Indivisible Project. Additionally, organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) have helped organize protests against ICE, especially following incidents such as the shooting of activist Renee Good. The Minnesota Freedom Fund, while primarily focused on bail reform, has also supported individuals affected by ICE actions and gained significant donations during the George Floyd protests. These organizations form the core of financial and organizational support for Minneapolis protests in response to immigration enforcement.
Protests Beyond Minneapolis: The Boise Example
Recently, a protest took place in Boise, Idaho’s capital, organized by a group called 50501 and featuring speakers from Indivisible, ACLU, and BABE VOTE. The Party for Socialism and Liberation was also present, leading chants and organizing demonstrations against ICE. It is a mistake to assume Idaho is immune from such activism, as evidenced by actions taken by Boise’s liberal mayor, McLean, who has supported initiatives from DEI to flying the LGBTQ flag over City Hall, and designating Boise as a Welcoming City. Even as I write this, a Stop ICE Terror protest is gathering in Boise at the state capitol. Idaho, and Boise in particular, are certainly not exempt from the influence of these leftist organizations. Addressing Illegal Immigration in Idaho
There is a pressing need to remove illegal immigrants from Idaho and return them to their countries of origin. This goal can only be achieved if the governor enforces E-Verify laws and supports ICE in arresting and deporting these individuals. In his State of the State address, Governor Little stated, “The American people delivered a mandate – enforce the law and keep our people safe. And Idaho was ready to step up. Through Operation No Return, the Idaho State Police are removing dangerous illegal alien criminals from our neighborhoods. We’re talking about child rapists, stalkers, violent offenders, kidnappers, and drug traffickers.” However, while it is the Governor’s duty to protect public safety by removing criminal elements, questions remain about efforts to address the use of medical and educational services and the impact on Idahoans in the job and housing markets. As rents and housing costs rise, it is worth considering how many rentals are occupied by illegal immigrants.
The Role of Choices and Political Leadership
Everyone makes choices, and those who cross the border illegally are subject to arrest and deportation as a result of their decisions. Similarly, politicians who engage in collusion, corruption, or rhetoric that undermines law enforcement also face consequences. The leaders of Minnesota and Minneapolis have chosen to restrict law enforcement’s ability to remove dangerous illegal immigrants, failing their responsibility to keep their constituents safe and uphold the Constitution. When politicians, activists, and liberal media support the activities of those who have broken immigration laws, they make it nearly impossible to maintain public safety. In doing so, they become obstacles to the removal of illegal immigrants and the restoration of order.
Media Bias and Public Perception
Do not expect objective reporting from liberal media outlets, as their aim is to hinder the removal of illegal immigrants and enable illegal voting in future elections to maintain leftist control in blue states. It is important to recognize that the portrayal of widespread opposition to immigration enforcement is misleading. Polls have shown that President Trump was elected on a promise to remove the 10 million illegal immigrants that entered the country under President Biden, and he is now working to fulfill that promise. It is time for citizens to support the president’s efforts to restore order and address the challenges created by previous administrations.
